One night at church, a lady prayed for me and said that God wanted me to get started on the project He gave me several months ago. I was not sure what she meant. I thought that maybe it meant that I needed to get busy proofreading David’s new book, but that just didn’t seem right. So, I walked away not having a clue.
The next morning, as I was waking up and just letting my mind think on the night before, I heard from the Lord that He wanted me to get busy writing a blog. This is an idea that had been germinating since September and I never seemed to get to it. So, I am now entering the blogosphere.
We live in a world where there is chaos. There are so many negative images and attitudes around that they seem normal to others while a calm approach to life seems crazy. God has not called us to a life of chaos and confusion but to a life of trusting in Him. I know, only crazy “Bible thumpers” put their trust in an unseen deity that will guide their lives. Right?
Well, I am grateful that God, the Creator and the Restorer, desires to guide my steps and my life. I can say that I have not always done a great job of that on my own. But I am learning some things as I walk with Him that I want to share.
The original reason I thought of a blog was to share something heart breaking. Someone I knew—not real well, but we worked together in the past and had spent time talking together—took his life. At the time I first heard, the details were sketchy, but the reality is that he left a wife and two children behind. Their pain—then and now—is beyond anything I can really imagine. I know the pain and emptiness of losing someone I love, but it was never by their own hand. From what I know, he was a Christian. How sad that instead of turning to the One who calms the storm and heals, he saw no way out of his misery except this route.
As I was praying for his family, God gave me a picture. It was a picture of someone standing in an empty swimming pool with their face pressed against the wall of the pool. As the person stood there, the pool began to fill with water and the light faded to darkness in the direction they were looking. The water rose and the person just stayed there, stuck to whatever was on the wall in front of them. I saw they were looking at their defeat, losses, disappointments—their “stuck” position. The individual stayed there until the water covered their head and they drowned. What else I saw, but the one in the pool did not, was that right behind them was light and a stairway out of the pool! How many times have you (or I) been caught looking at our “stuck” position and not turning to the light and the Creator of light?
Jesus said that He came that we might have an abundant, joyous life. (John 10:10) A life free from worry over how to care for our needs. (Matthew 6:25-34) A life where God (in the form of the Holy Spirit) is our ever-present help, comforter and counselor. (John 14:16)
As I continue with future writings, I will share things that I hope will encourage you. If you are walking with the Lord, then it can help strengthen that walk. If you have not yet come to Him with a desire to be a born-again believer, then these things I share can help bring you to that point. The God who created all things desires to walk this life with you. He never meant for us to wander on our own. The book of Genesis tells us that God would come and walk with Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening in the Garden of Eden. His desire for our fellowship has not changed.
